Morgan Stanley Launches Internal Laboratory Tests for Stablecoin Payments
2026-09-30 18:22:15
According to CoinMeta, Morgan Stanley is testing stablecoin payments through a newly established digital assets laboratory that is designed to research blockchain tools in isolation from its core systems. The bank will also explore tokenized deposits, central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), tokenized money market funds, and decentralized finance (DeFi) applications to understand how digital assets can operate securely within financial markets. Morgan Stanley’s digital assets laboratory provides a separate environment for testing digital asset technologies, and these tests will not affect the bank’s main systems. The setup of the laboratory is intended to provide a controlled environment for the bank to study new tools, including stablecoin payments and various forms of tokenized currencies. Amy Aldenburg, Morgan Stanley’s head of digital assets, described the laboratory as a safe and isolated environment designed to meet regulatory requirements. This move indicates that Morgan Stanley is researching how blockchain tools can function within existing financial systems. The laboratory focuses on testing rather than immediate deployment, allowing Morgan Stanley to conduct thorough reviews before applying new technologies to a broader range of platforms.
