According to CoinMeta, and as reported by Kobe News, on September 30, the Rukyuu Police Station in Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, announced that a 65-year-old man was scammed by individuals posing as police officers, resulting in the loss of approximately 826 million yen (about 5.26 million US dollars) in cryptocurrency assets. The scammers claimed that his bank account was involved in multiple reports by others and demanded that he check his assets to “prove his innocence.” The victim followed their instructions and converted his deposits and securities into cryptocurrency, which was then transferred to the scammers’ controlled accounts in ten separate transactions between September 7 and 17. The police are investigating this case as one involving the use of computers for fraud.
