According to CoinMeta, a woman from Florida lost $15,825 after receiving calls from impersonators of law enforcement officers who threatened to arrest her if she did not appear in court. Detectives from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office traced a Bitcoin deposit of about $4,209, which was transferred through multiple wallets to a cash application account associated with Annie Lee Ashley ( Annie Lee Ashley ), 61 years old, from East Dublin, Georgia. Ashley was arrested on September 25, 2026, for grand larceny, and court records show that she was released on bail of $15,000 on the same day. Her lawyer filed a not-guilty defense. The victim reported the fraud on August 7, 2026; the two Bitcoin deposits on that day totaled approximately 0.0655 BTC (about $4,209) and 0.1063 BTC (about $6,832).
