According to CoinMeta, U.S. President Donald Trump's executive order to rename artificial intelligence (“AI”) as “super intelligence” could be exploited by insiders to earn “hundreds of millions of dollars” in advance by selling “.ai” domain names. Independent journalist Adam Cocklen discovered that before Trump announced the rebranding of the “AI” brand on September 19, there was a surge in the registration of “.ai” domain names in June and July. Cocklen noted that 12,000 domain names were registered before the announcement, and “95% of the .ai domain names before July were in languages other than English.” He believes that Trump’s executive order will prompt federal agencies and tech companies to purchase .ai domain names to comply with Trump’s requirements. Trump stated that “AI” is an outdated term, and “super intelligence” better reflects technological progress.
