According to CoinMeta, Illinois has agreed to postpone the implementation of a crypto tax by six months, meaning that the tax, which was originally scheduled to take effect on January 1st, may not be implemented as planned. The Digital Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Blockchain Association have reached this agreement with the state government, although it still requires the signature of a judge for confirmation. The tax rate is 0.2% and applies to crypto activities with an annual income exceeding $100,000, including all transaction activities and asset storage. The request for postponement is expected to be submitted to the Sangamon County State Circuit Court on Thursday morning. If approved, both parties can skip the debate over legal prohibitions and focus on the next stage of the court dispute, which is regarding the “legal issues” of the state’s digital asset tax law. The CEO of the Digital Chamber of Commerce, Cody Carbone, stated: “We are pleased that Illinois has agreed to postpone the implementation of the digital asset tax, which relieves digital asset businesses and users of a costly compliance burden. At the same time, we continue to seek to have the tax permanently abolished through the courts.”
