According to CoinMeta, Jera, Dell, and Rhaelm have signed a data center construction agreement worth over $15 billion in Chiba, Japan. The project will be built next to a gas power plant in Jera and is expected to attract financing from Apollo Global Management. Japanese Digital Minister Koushi Matsuno previously warned that Japan needs to act quickly to avoid becoming a "AI colony." The project is scheduled to begin operations in phases in 2028 and is expected to reach full capacity in 2029, with Jera providing electricity under a contract lasting 15 to 25 years. This data center will become Japan's largest single AI deployment, with a capacity of up to 400 megawatts.
