CoinMeta data: According to a report by the International Monetary Fund ( IMF ), Ghana's crypto market has become the fifth-largest in Sub-Saharan Africa, with an annual digital asset transaction volume estimated at around $21 billion. IMF indicates that the scale of Ghana's crypto industry is now large enough to present new licensing and regulatory challenges for the Bank of Ghana and the Securities and Exchange Commission. It is estimated that 8% to 17% of the population has purchased or sold cryptocurrencies, although the use of retail remittances is still relatively low. Ghana's regulatory authorities expect that the virtual asset ecosystem now serves over 3 million users. In a policy statement on September 28th, the Bank of Ghana and the Securities and Exchange Commission stated that digital assets can no longer be outside of the national financial regulatory framework.
