G7 Announces the Release of 100 Million Barrels of Emergency Reserves, Oil Prices Fall Below $100

CoinMeta data: G7 A country has announced the release of 100 million barrels of emergency crude oil and diesel to address the global energy crisis, with the release to be carried out over four months, with a focus on diesel in the first 20 days. The International Energy Agency (IEA) will oversee the implementation and assess whether further action is needed. This intervention comes after Brent crude oil prices exceeded $100 several times in September, with disruptions in the Middle East and restrictions on refineries exacerbating tensions in the energy market. Leaders have particularly emphasized the diesel shortage, calling on countries to coordinate refinery maintenance and temporarily increase utilization rates where possible. The IEA stated that Middle Eastern crude oil exports have significantly recovered, but the flow of refined products is still severely restricted, partly due to attacks on Russian refineries. This intervention is not the first of its kind in 2026; in March, the IEA agreed to release 400 million barrels of crude oil, which was the largest coordinated reserve release in history. According to the agency's data, about 325 million barrels, more than 80%, have already entered the market. The United States has also recently provided an additional 40 million barrels from its strategic petroleum reserves, although its strategic reserves are now near their lowest levels since 1982. Oil prices exceeding $100 have had an impact on Treasury yields and inflation expectations, putting pressure on stocks and Bitcoin.
