CFTC Paves the Way for Truly Sustainable Futures on US Regulated Exchanges
2026-10-06 12:10:48
According to CoinMeta, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued a no-action letter on October 3, permitting the introduction of true perpetual futures on regulated exchanges in the United States. The letter stated that the CFTC would not take enforcement action against CFTC derivatives or any designated contract markets that eliminate expiration dates. On October 5, it was announced that the no-action relief related to perpetual futures, which have always been part of the offshore digital currency market, was granted. The CFTC also indicated that eligible exchanges could immediately implement changes to the expiration dates, but traders holding open positions were required to be notified five days in advance. The deadline for this relief is October 20.
