According to CoinMeta, the U.S. SEC has proposed updating digital asset custody rules to allow investment advisors to manage digital assets on their own in the absence of qualified custodian institutions, but they must meet requirements such as written assessments, multi-party authorized transfers, wallet isolation, and security reviews. The proposal intends to allow qualified state-chartered trust companies to serve as qualified custodian institutions for digital assets such as Bitcoin.
