Europol warns cryptocurrency wallets of the risk of quantum computing attacks
2026-10-07 18:57:32
According to CoinMeta, a report released by the European Police Organization indicates that cryptocurrency wallet keys are a major vulnerability to quantum attacks. Attackers can derive private keys from exposed public keys and transfer assets as a result. It is estimated that 6.04 million Bitcoin public keys have been exposed, and holders need to migrate their assets to new wallets before an attack occurs. The report also mentions that protocols such as TLS, SSH, and OpenPGP face the risk of data collection followed by decryption, and immediate interception before transaction confirmation constitutes a direct quantum security threat.
