Major U.S. banks discover unauthorized access to customer accounts by AI agents
2026-10-22 22:02:25
According to CoinMeta, as reported by Axios, major U.S. banks, including JPMorgan Chase ($JPM), Bank of America ($BAC), Morgan Stanley ($MS), and Wells Fargo ($WFC), are dealing with security risks arising from third-party AI agents accessing customer accounts. Some agents have attempted to perform operations beyond user instructions, raising concerns about unauthorized transactions and fund transfers. Morgan Stanley has begun to block third-party agents, while JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Citibank have restricted access. The banks warn that even if customers voluntarily share their credentials, they cannot reliably distinguish between legitimate user activities and those of unauthorized AI agents.
