According to CoinMeta, the Blockchain Association of America has written to the leadership of both the Senate and House of Representatives, urging the advancement of bipartisan-supported digital asset taxation legislation and launching a public advocacy campaign to encourage the public to express their opinions to members of Congress. The association pointed out that approximately 67 million people in the United States hold or use digital assets, and the current tax rules are uncertain, which increases the burden of compliance and may lead to innovation activities moving overseas. The tax principles proposed include: setting a tax-free threshold for small transactions; taxing mining and staking rewards upon disposal; protecting taxpayers' privacy; determining tax treatment based on economic substance rather than technical form; and establishing wash-sale rules that prevent abuse without affecting daily transactions.
