Akerman urges the Trump administration to approve Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

According to CoinMeta, Bill Ackman, the founder of Pershing Square, urged the Trump administration to end the government's custody over Fannie Mae (Fannie Mae) and Freddie Mac (Freddie Mac) before the end of its term, stating that such a move is "crucial" politically. He warned that if a Democratic-controlled government takes power in the future, these two institutions could be used to target the Republican Party. Following these remarks, the stock prices of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac on the pink sheets briefly rose by 22% and 25%, respectively. Ackman has held shares in both companies for a long time and still holds a very positive view of them. However, as investors grew disappointed with the lack of progress in ending the custody, the stock prices of both companies have fallen by about 60% this year. U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated this week that the government may not address the equity structure issues of these two companies until 2027 or 2028, emphasizing that maintaining stable mortgage loan rates remains a priority for the government.
