Bitcoin Core Adjusts security vulnerability disclosure policy to expedite the fixing of vulnerabilities that are easily detected by AI

According to CoinMeta, Bitcoin Core has adjusted its security vulnerability disclosure policy to fix vulnerabilities that can be easily detected by large language models as soon as possible in all maintained versions and to issue security announcements promptly. Antoine Poinsot, the developer, stated that large language models have lowered the threshold for re-discovering vulnerabilities, making the protective effect of delayed fixes limited. Low-risk vulnerabilities are disclosed two weeks after they are fixed, medium to high-risk vulnerabilities are disclosed two weeks after the affected versions cease to be supported, and critical vulnerabilities are handled through temporary procedures. In August, Bitcoin Red Team reported nearly 5,000 potential issues in 390 projects. Core Lightning developers requested that node operators upgrade or take nodes offline during the same month and postponed the disclosure of technical details for two weeks.
