According to CoinMeta, the first shipment of Russian diesel under the Trump-Putin agreement has now been transported to the United States, officially ending a four-and-a-half-year ban. An oil tanker carrying 40,000 tons of Russian diesel is expected to arrive in New York on November 7th. This will mark the first time the U.S. has imported Russian petroleum products since the ban was imposed in 2022. To facilitate this transaction, the U.S. Treasury Department has granted sanctions exemptions for Russian diesel, which are valid until April 7, 2027, while Moscow has agreed to reopen exports. Trump stated that Russia will send an initial 300,000 tons of diesel to the U.S. and global markets, followed by another 500,000 tons in November, and then 1 million tons per month thereafter. Meanwhile, the average price of diesel in the U.S. is currently around $6.31 per gallon, which is a 74% increase from $3.63 a year ago. This agreement is part of Trump's efforts to reduce soaring diesel prices ahead of the upcoming mid-term elections on November 3rd. Brent crude oil has now exceeded $115 per barrel, and U.S. crude oil has surpassed $100 per barrel.
