CoinMeta data: On October 22, the yield on French 10-year government bonds reached 5.14%, breaking through 5% for the first time in 24 years. As debt approached 120% of the GDP, investors' demand for compensation for holding increasingly risky French debt rose, leading to government borrowing costs climbing to their highest level in 24 years. Although the yield fell back to around 5.04% on October 23, concerns about France's fiscal prospects continued to put pressure on the European bond market. On Thursday, the yield spread between French 10-year government bonds and German bonds widened to 177 basis points, the highest since 2011. France's debt is expected to reach a GDP of 119.3% in 2026 and 121.7% in 2027.
