CoinMeta Data: Blockchain security firm blockaid releases "2026 Threat Landscape Report on Fund Recovery," tracking 60 major on-chain attacks that occurred from January 5 to August 5, 2026, involving approximately $1.18 billion in stolen assets. As of September 2, only $9.8 million has been returned to the victims, while another $81.4 million has been frozen but not yet returned. The report indicates that attackers began transferring assets an average of just 17 minutes after stealing the funds; 22% of the incidents saw fund transfers within the first minute, and 68% within one hour. Of the 60 incidents, only 5 resulted in the successful recovery or partial freezing of funds, totaling $91.2 million. Approximately 99% of this was achieved through control mechanisms at the protocol or blockchain level. Freezing of stablecoin issuer addresses and compliance freezes by centralized exchanges did not lead to any actual recoveries. In addition, about $287 million in stolen funds are still held in known hacker addresses. However, since these funds involve assets such as ETH and BTC that lack issuer-level freezing mechanisms, another $97.2 million that could theoretically be frozen have not yet been subjected to such measures.
