South Korea may defer 22% crypto tax to 2029

According to CoinMeta, South Korea may postpone its 22% crypto tax until 2029, which would be the fourth time such a delay has occurred. The bill proposed by the ruling Democratic Party delays the start date from January 2027. The bill indicates that users of South Korean exchanges will be most affected, as authorities will not be able to see transactions from foreign platforms before global crypto tax data sharing begins. Officials stated that taxation will still commence in January 2027, but today the presidential office mentioned that the delay is under review and no decision has yet been made. If the bill passes, the taxation, which was originally scheduled to take effect in 2022, will be postponed for seven years.
