According to CoinMeta, as reported by Bitcoin.com, 38 companies have opposed the stock tokenization plan of OKXICE, accounting for about 60% of the target companies. An update announced on October 28th by OKXICE showed that companies such as Walmart, Eli Lilly, Cigna, Carnival Corporation, and Arcos Dorados have officially opposed this plan. With five additional companies joining in opposition, a total of 38 out of 63 target companies now oppose it, representing a combined market value of over $19.4 billion. OKXICE was jointly established by the crypto exchange OKX and Intercontinental Exchange (ICE); the plan allows eligible investors to trade blockchain-backed tokens of U.S. stocks around the clock using stablecoins. These tokens will be backed by real stocks held by registered brokerage traders, and transactions are intended to be conducted through licensed Uniswap V4 liquidity pools on the OKX X Layer network. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) granted a temporary regulatory exemption in September, allowing eligible platforms to conduct stock tokenization transactions without having to comply with some requirements of traditional exchanges, and also permitting listed companies to oppose the tokenization of their stocks by third parties. The announcement listed the companies that opposed the plan but did not provide specific reasons for each one.
