Binance hacker used DEFI deposit credentials to evade stablecoin freezes, involving $500,000 in funds

According to CoinMeta, as monitored by Chainalysis, hackers from Binance exploited the deposit vouchers of the DEFI lending protocol on the Tron chain to transfer the redemption rights of stablecoins, in order to circumvent the freezing measures imposed by the issuer. The attackers exchanged TRX for stablecoins and deposited them into the lending protocol to obtain deposit vouchers. They then transferred these vouchers to new wallets to redeem the stablecoins and converted them into ETH through cross-chain bridges. This tactic separates the right to claim the assets represented by the deposit vouchers from the freezing control of the underlying stablecoins. A North Korean Tradertraitor gang has previously used this method to transfer $500,000 in funds. Circle and Tether have assisted in freezing approximately $2.8 billion in related assets.
