According to CoinMeta, the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a notice identifying North Korea as responsible for a crypto asset theft of over $6 billion targeting Binance, referring to the related malicious cyber activities as "Operation Grumpy Bear." The FBI, in conjunction with the United States Secret Service and the Criminal Investigation Division of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), found that the attackers primarily exchanged the stolen assets for Bitcoin, with further money laundering expected to occur through cryptocurrency exchanges and instant exchange services. The FBI called on cryptocurrency operators, node operators, instant exchange platforms, payment service providers, and other virtual asset service providers to block transactions involving the relevant addresses or originating from these addresses, and also published a list of addresses controlled by North Korean attackers or closely associated with them that currently or previously held the stolen assets.
