According to CoinMeta, OpenAI indicates that its data center in Georgia can release up to 1000 megawatts of power in emergency situations. This is part of a pilot project for its new "Grid Protector Program" that is about to be launched in Effingham County, Georgia. This capacity is sufficient to power the air conditioning systems of approximately 700,000 households during extreme weather conditions. OpenAI promotes the power plants behind its data centers as "resources that utilities can call upon when the community needs them most," as opposition to data centers in the area is growing.
