Economist: Germany's service sector growth slowed in October, but a rebound in demand remains key

According to CoinMeta, Phil Smith, Deputy Director of Financial Intelligence Economics at S&P Global Markets, stated that Germany's service sector recovery encountered resistance in October. The latest PMI survey indicates that as corporate demand slowed slightly, the industry's growth momentum weakened. The rebound in new business inflows in the service sector during the third quarter seems sufficient to support continued growth in business activities in October, as companies are still working through backlogged orders and projects. However, if the service sector is to maintain growth throughout the remainder of the fourth quarter, demand will need to recover rapidly. The Corporate Expectations Index rose to its highest level since February, suggesting that this slowdown may be temporary. Companies surveyed expressed an optimistic attitude towards the market environment over the coming year. As expected, with the reintroduction of fuel discounts in October, both input and output prices in the service sector declined. Nevertheless, compared to historical levels, price pressures remain high. In addition to fuel prices remaining high, companies also mentioned that rising borrowing costs and wage increases are squeezing their operating margins.
