According to CoinMeta, India has made significant adjustments to its short-term military recruitment program, extending the service period for new recruits and providing them with the opportunity to become regular soldiers. These changes come at a time when tensions along the border between India and Pakistan continue to put pressure on the defense system. Some of the most controversial aspects of a military recruitment program named “agnipath” have been retracted. This program replaced most of the traditional conscription system with a four-year contract system, under which only a quarter of each batch of recruits were able to stay in the military to continue serving. The adjustment has been approved by India’s federal cabinet, led by Prime Minister Modi. In June 2022, the Modi government launched the “agnipath” program, aimed at rejuvenating the military and reducing the substantial costs associated with salaries and pensions for the armed forces.
