SpaceX Applies for Permission to Launch 1 Million Solar-powered Computing Satellites

According to CoinMeta, as reported by Benzinga, SpaceX ($SPCX) has applied to federal regulators for permission to launch up to 1 million solar-powered computing satellites. Elon Musk stated after the midterms on November 3rd that "data centers in space now seem quite attractive." As of September 30th, SpaceX already had 1.7 gigawatts of computing power on Earth. Adding more satellites means ensuring access to electricity, land, water sources, and local approvals. Texas, as a major market for new data centers, has just elected a governor who promised to strengthen protection for residents and end tax incentives for developers. Orbiting satellites offers a clear advantage; they can generate power in sunlight for most of the time without increasing the demand on local power grids. SpaceX discussed conducting preliminary demonstrations by the end of 2027, with widespread deployment possibly beginning in 2028.
