Economists: The impact of mid-term election results on growth and inflation is mixed
2026-11-05 14:06:08
According to CoinMeta, Reto Kuenni, the chief economist of the syz group, stated in a report that the results of the mid-term elections in the United States may have a slight negative impact on economic growth by weakening fiscal and investment momentum. However, if energy prices fall, it could be beneficial for curbing inflation, reducing interest rate pressures, and enhancing household purchasing power. Kuenni pointed out that the election results have brought two opposing forces to the U.S. economy: on one hand, the policy support for economic growth may weaken; on the other hand, improvements on the supply side may offset this impact to some extent. With Democrats controlling Congress while Trump still retains the veto power, the likelihood of introducing a new round of large-scale tax cuts or spending plans will be significantly reduced. Kuenni said that the political deadlock reduces the possibility of further fiscal stimulus measures, but at the same time, it increases the risk of debt ceiling negotiations getting messy or a temporary government shutdown.
