Microsoft Rejects Billion-Dollar Nscale AI Expansion, Future of Data Centers in Question
2026-11-06 01:04:33
According to CoinMeta, Microsoft has rejected a data center expansion that could have been worth billions of dollars, maintaining its existing commitment of $43.8 billion. This decision was made several months before Nscale filed for its initial public offering in the United States in September, and it relates to additional optional capacity, rather than canceling the committed infrastructure expenditures. Nscale's relationship with Microsoft is quite substantial; documents SEC show that an agreement signed from September 2025 to April 2026 stipulates that total payments up to approximately $43.8 billion by December 2033 are covered, including GPU infrastructure and cloud computing services. Although Microsoft has decided not to expand its capacity in Texas, it has not reduced the total amount already committed. Nscale is currently discussing the remaining capacity in Texas with other major clients, indicating that rejecting Microsoft's expansion does not necessarily mean that the infrastructure will lose potential buyers.
