Cory Fields: Quantum landmines could protect Bitcoin holders
2026-11-06 10:26:45
According to CoinMeta, Bitcoin core developer Cory Fields has proposed the concept of a "quantum mine," where coin holders can pre-hide proof of ownership. If someone attempts to transfer Bitcoin, which is vulnerable to quantum attacks, they must first provide an equivalent amount of Bitcoin as collateral. During the waiting period, both parties' assets will be locked. The original coin holder can then present proof during this time to retrieve their assets and obtain the collateral from the other party. Fields noted that this concept still assumes Bitcoin has quantum-resistant wallets, and the implementation rules have not yet been established; therefore, even real coin holders may need to provide equivalent collateral when transferring assets.
