National Development and Reform Commission: Three Measures to Ensure That China's Food Bowl Is Filled with Chinese Grain
2026-11-06 12:39:32
According to CoinMeta, at the “Advancing the 14th Five-Year Plan” series of press conferences held by the National Development and Reform Commission today, relevant officials stated that they will focus on two key aspects: cultivated land and seeds. They aim to advance the construction of high-standard farmland with high quality, gradually transforming all eligible permanent basic farmland into high-standard farmland. At the same time, efforts will be accelerated to build and renovate key irrigation projects, turning more “rain-fed fields” into “fertile fields that ensure harvests.” The strategy emphasizes both maintaining the current area of farmland and increasing per-unit yields. By taking into account local farming practices and resource endowments, measures will be tailored for different regions and crop varieties to promote the integrated use of high-quality farmland, seeds, machinery, and farming methods, thereby achieving balanced increases in yield for major grain and oil crops over large areas. In addition, measures will be taken to better motivate farmers to grow grain and local governments to prioritize grain production. By coordinating policies such as investment, pricing, subsidies, and insurance that support and benefit farmers, the expected returns for farmers growing grain will be stabilized. A compensation mechanism for major grain-producing regions will also be improved to fully motivate local areas to prioritize grain production.
