According to CoinMeta, and as reported by the Financial Times, Iran has threatened that if the United States and Israel launch a new round of bombing operations, they will target submarine cables and data centers. Maritime data analysis company Windward has tracked and found that within a few days, at least four vessels associated with Iran took abnormal routes along the submarine cable lines in the Gulf of Oman and stayed in those areas for extended periods. Three of these vessels were oil tankers subject to U.S. sanctions, while the fourth was a small Iranian fishing boat. From October 21st to 26th, this fishing boat lingered above the European-India submarine cable and the Transworld submarine cable. If the submarine cables in this region are attacked, the economies of the surrounding Gulf countries will be significantly affected. Telegeography data shows that currently, there are six submarine cables passing through the Strait of Hormuz, with three more under construction. The internet connectivity of Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Qatar is entirely dependent on the submarine cables that cross the Strait of Hormuz.
