According to CoinMeta, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission has released a summary of its consultation, proposing to amend the "Securities and Futures Ordinance" and the "Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Ordinance" to further restrict institutions from using names that may lead the public to mistakenly believe they are regulated or associated with well-known financial institutions. Names that are proposed to be restricted include "encryption," "cryptocurrency," "digital asset," "token," "tokenized asset," "virtual asset," etc., as well as names composed of these terms along with words like "exchange," "market," "trading platform," "clearing house," and their similar expressions, such as "crypto exchange," "digital asset market," "digital currency trading platform." The restrictions apply to combinations of these terms; the use of any single term alone does not necessarily result in restriction. The draft amendments are still subject to review by the Legislative Council, and it is suggested that the relevant regulations come into effect six months after they are finalized.
