Russian astronaut: Further exploration of the moon will be impossible without nuclear power plants
2026-11-08 03:03:30
According to CoinMeta, as reported by the Russian Satellite News Agency, Andrei Babukin, deputy commander of the Russian Space Forces Astronaut Team, stated that building a nuclear power plant on the Moon is a prerequisite for further exploration of the Moon, including conducting manned missions. Previously, Alexei Likhachev, general manager of Rosatom (Russia's state nuclear energy company), mentioned that Russia plans to build the first lunar nuclear power plant by the mid-2030s. During the "Science 0+" international festival in Tashkent, Babukin discussed the plan to build a nuclear power plant on the Moon, saying, "Without such a power plant, further exploration of the Moon is simply impossible." He also noted that under the long lunar night conditions, which last about 14 Earth days, and the extremely low temperatures, a nuclear power plant is "the only solution that can ensure stability and safety." He pointed out that a reliable source of energy is particularly important during the transition from unmanned exploration systems to manned expeditions.
