Workers at factories in the Hudson River Valley demand safer working conditions

New York State Rock Tavern, September 29th / PRNewswire / -- Workers at the Amazon SWF1 facility warehouse located in Rock Tavern of New York State initiated a strike over unfair labor practices today. For several months prior to this, they had been demanding that Amazon improve safer working conditions, but received no response.

Workers are demanding an end to Amazon's unsafe policies, such as the dangerous speeds of conveyor belts, as well as the indifference of Amazon management when employees report substandard conditions. They are also fighting to stop unfair performance demerits.

A warehouse worker with the ID Javier Rivera from SWF1 said, "My colleagues and I have continuously raised our safety concerns with Amazon, but we are always ignored. We are even told that we don't know what we're talking about. This is not only a lack of respect for us, but it also exposes our health and safety to unnecessary risks. If Amazon is unwilling to listen to us on site, then we will force them to listen to us in the streets. We will not stop until Amazon begins to treat us with the dignity that each worker deserves."

Workers stated that they often see Amazon placing profits and productivity above safe working conditions. Many people at SWF1 are forced to sort and search for items in corridors filled with packages while also having to dodge falling parcels. Amazon's labor-sharing policy frequently reassigns workers to other departments without proper training, making it easier for them to make mistakes. Workers have posted these safety concerns on the company's digital " Voice of the Associate " bulletin boards, but Amazon has not addressed these issues; instead, it has deleted their messages.

Another warehouse worker from SWF1, Scott Spath, said, "Amazon wants to scare us because it knows that it has no answer when faced with the unity and strength of workers. When we stand together and support each other, there is nothing we cannot achieve. We are no longer waiting for Amazon to fix these problems. The only way to earn the respect we deserve is to fight for it ourselves, and that's exactly what we are doing at SWF1."

SWF1 Workers are on the picket line today, demanding that Amazon comply with the law and stop the unfair labor practices within that facility.
