Kyoto, September 30, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- New Tang Technology Japan Co., Ltd. ( Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan, hereinafter referred to as “ NTCJ ”) announced on September 29th that it will start providing KA85010UA samples from January 2027. This product is a 26-string battery monitor IC equipped with EIS functionality.

NTCJ indicates that, compared to traditional methods, its own inductance approach can reduce the temperature rise of the circuit board during EIS measurement by approximately 93%, thereby enabling battery degradation diagnosis, life prediction, and early detection of abnormal cell signs. NTCJ also provides EIS analysis algorithms to support customers in integrating them into their applications.

In addition to the battery monitoring function, this product also integrates impedance measurement based on EIS into a single chip. EIS is a method of applying alternating current to the battery and calculating the impedance based on the resulting voltage and current waveforms. With this design, EIS measurements can be performed within the system without the need for specialized measuring equipment that was previously required, thereby enabling continuous monitoring and diagnosis of the internal state of the battery.

By providing a quantitative assessment of the internal state of batteries, which is difficult to determine using traditional voltage, current, and temperature measurements alone, EIS can be used to estimate SOH and internal temperature, predict battery life, and detect early signs of cell abnormalities. This, in turn, helps to enhance the safety of batteries in vehicles and energy storage systems.

This product adopts NTCJ's proprietary inductive method, replacing the traditional resistive approach, thereby significantly reducing energy loss. The company has assessed and confirmed that compared to the traditional resistive method, both power loss and the temperature rise of the circuit board can be reduced by approximately 93% (see Figures 2 and 3).

The company states that these low-power and low-heat-generation characteristics facilitate the integration of EIS functions in vehicle batteries and energy storage systems. At the same time, this also enables the devices to stably collect EIS measurement data during operation, charging, and idle states, thereby supporting more advanced battery health monitoring and diagnostics.

Based on the EIS data analysis experience accumulated during the verification process with automobile manufacturers and research institutions, NTCJ indicates that it can provide comprehensive support, ranging from the setup of the EIS measurement environment, the implementation of estimation and anomaly detection functions, to their integration in applications (see Figure 4).

The company stated that this support can help even customers who are just starting to use the EIS function to develop battery diagnostic systems more easily and shorten the development cycle.
