CME Group plans to launch UNI futures on October 19th, which may expand institutional exposure to this DeFi token. UNI is already near a key support level, and traders are paying attention to this catalyst.
If this plan progresses as scheduled, it will be claimed to be the first time that CME Group has launched a futures product for a dedicated DeFi token. For UNI, this is undoubtedly an important development, but merely being listed does not guarantee a rise in price.
CME Futures may bring UNI into the sight of institutional investors
The listing scheduled for October 19th may provide a new pathway for institutions to access the Uniswap native tokens. This is currently the most closely watched catalyst, and traders will observe whether it will translate into stronger demand.
However, there is also one issue here. Market expectations may emerge before actual buying orders, so the impact of this listing will depend on how the market reacts.
The golden cross of UNI drove a strong upward trend.
The daily chart of UNI has previously shown a considerable trend. In August, the 50-day and 200-day moving averages ( EMA ) formed a golden cross.
Thereafter, the token price rose from $3.15 to a high of $10.90 in September, representing an increase of about 250%. This was a considerable rebound, but the momentum did not continue indefinitely.
By early October, UNI had fallen back to the support area of $7.00, which is close to the 50-day EMA. Currently, it is consolidating around this level.
Can the support of $7 push UNI back towards $12?
The $7.00 range is a level that requires close attention. If the support holds, and if the expected futures listing brings about stronger demand, the price of UNI could rebound to $12, or even go higher.

However, this bullish scenario still needs to be confirmed. A single listing announcement and a technical pattern do not necessarily equate to a rise, especially after such a rapid increase has already occurred before.
Currently, the next move of UNI depends on whether buyers can hold the support level and transform the catalyst of CME futures into sustained demand. The $12 target is still under discussion, but the market needs to make a real effort.
