Hoboken, New Jersey, October 13th / PRNewswire / —— Rocket One Inc. (Nasdaq ticker: RKTO, hereinafter referred to as “Rocket One” or “the Company”) announced today that it has signed a sponsorship research agreement with the University of Virginia VCU to advance SKYMRAM – a magnetic storage technology based on skyrmions skyrmion – which may be applied in future generations of AI chips and computing systems.
The protocol establishes a one-year research program, which is expected to commence on November 1, 2026. The research will focus on nanoscale manufacturing, material optimization, and device-level testing, with the goal of achieving a key concept validation milestone: demonstrating the switching of the SKYMRAM soft magnetic layer.
For Rocket One, this agreement establishes a clear experimental development plan that supports the company's broader strategy of advancing advanced semiconductor technologies for AI infrastructure, aerospace, and defense applications.
Rocket One CEO Robb Knie stated: "Building the next generation of AI computing requires advancements in underlying hardware, including how information is stored and switched. This protocol establishes a specific development path for SKYMRAM, encompassing manufacturing, characterization, and transition milestones, with the aim of testing this technology at the device level. Our goal is to lay a technical foundation for future chip architectures that will serve AI infrastructure, aerospace, and defense."
Driving the foundation of future AI chips
SKYMRAM research is based on spinels – nanoscale magnetic structures – and proposes a magnetic storage architecture. This project will study the material structures and switching behaviors required to advance this method for future semiconductor applications.
The planned work includes:
- Nanoscale device fabrication: Patterning, etching, and characterization of magnetic material stacks intended to accommodate Sgrimmingerons.
- Materials Engineering: Developing and optimizing thin film structures to support device testing.
- Switching research: Studying the control of soft magnetic layers is a core concept verification goal.
- Device optimization: Optimizing the structure to accommodate Sgringers approximately 100 nanometers in size, and striving to achieve reliable switching within the planned experimental framework.
VCU will be led by Chief Researcher Jayasimha Atulasimha. The agreement also includes a subcontracting arrangement provided to Northwestern University, which is used to support thin film growth, material characterization, and optimization, as well as to form feedback between material development and device measurement.
Clear development path for advanced semiconductor technology
The plan sets quarterly targets, progressing from the fabrication and characterization of the initial material stack to the research on and optimization of nano-scale structures.
These experiments are aimed at generating evidence necessary to assess the technical feasibility of SKYMRAM and to guide subsequent development. This plan represents foundational research on storage devices that will support future AI chip architectures; it does not imply that a complete AI processor or verified system-level performance has already been achieved.
Rocket One believes that advanced magnetic storage may become a potential component of its long-term computing strategy. AI Applications in infrastructure, space, and defense sectors still require further development and validation for specific use cases, including any tests to prove radiation resistance.
The agreement also grants Rocket One the option to negotiate licenses for intellectual property generated by the project, subject to the terms of the agreement.
