The report states that the cost of remitting stablecoins is 84% lower, but there are differences in the completion rates of cashouts.

According to a comparison attributed to Borderless.xyz, the cost difference between remittances funded by stablecoins and traditional transfers is approximately 84%; the cost of a $200 payment via the stablecoin route is $2, whereas according to an earlier World Bank benchmark, it would be $12.72.

  • According to the comparison in the report from Borderless, the cost of remitting funds for stablecoin contributions is $2 for every $200 transferred, which is approximately 84% lower than the cost of traditional methods.
  • The comparison uses the stablecoin pricing for the third quarter of 2026, as well as data from the World Bank for the third quarter of 2025.
  • The report lists redemption completion rates ranging from 73% in Costa Rica to 98.6% in Mexico.
  • A payment of $10,000 in stablecoins destined for enterprises in the eurozone can be made at a minimum cost of $26 through the service provider with the lowest quotation.

According to a new report for the third quarter of 2026 published by Borderless.xyz, the median cost of remittances in the third quarter of 2026 was 1%, whereas the World Bank's global average for the third quarter of 2025 was 6.36%.

According to this comparison, the cost difference for each transfer of $200 is $10.72. Based on the data cited in the text, if this savings amount is divided by the traditional transfer cost of $12.72, the reduction rate is 84.3%.

The World Bank's "Global Remittance Prices" report independently confirms the figure of 6.36%, but defines it as an average value. The figure for Borderless is described as the median, and the two sets of data cover different years.

The cost of remitting stablecoins varies depending on the recipient region.

For Sub-Saharan Africa, the results cited in the text ( Borderless ) show that the cost of remittances funded by stablecoins is 2.9%, whereas the benchmark for traditional transfers is 8.46%.

Calculated based on these rates, the cost of a $200 payment through the stablecoin route is $5.80, while through the traditional route it is $16.92. The resulting difference is $11.12, which represents a savings of 65.7% compared to the traditional cost.

In Latin America, the data cited in the text is as follows: the cost of stablecoin funding transfers is 1.25%, while traditional remittances cost 5.64%. Applying these percentages to $200, the costs would be $2.50 and $11.28 respectively, resulting in a savings of $8.78.

Within traditional remittances, the World Bank's results for the third quarter of 2025 show that prices vary depending on the type of service. The digital remittance index was 4.59%, while the index for purely digital remittance operators was 3.54%.

If the median cost of 1% stablecoins mentioned in the report is compared with these earlier digital benchmarks, the resulting savings amounts to 78.2% and 71.8%, respectively. However, neither of these calculations can prove that a specific remitter will definitely obtain such prices, nor are they comparisons made over the same period for exactly the same routes.

World Bank records show that in the third quarter of 2025, banks were the most expensive category of remittance service providers, with an average cost of 14.99%. Their International Remittance Operators Index was 5.52%, which is lower than the global average, but higher than that of purely digital operators.

Enterprise payment quotes depend on the destination and service provider.

For a corporate transfer of $10,000 to the eurozone, a report cited in the text states that through the cheapest service providers, the cost of funding with stablecoins can be as low as $26. The report also provides another figure of $52, which represents the median quote from service providers across all channels.

According to the same source, the comparison range for traditional bank wire transfers is between $135 and $150, which includes the transfer fees as well as an assumed foreign exchange exchange rate difference of 1%. For a payment of $10,000, this exchange rate assumption alone amounts to $100.

Compared to the above bank wire transfer quote range, a case in the eurozone costing $26 means a savings of $109 to $124. The figure of $52 indicates a savings of $83 to $98, but it refers to a geographical sample that is different from the eurozone quotes.

The factor of service provider selection was previously mentioned in earlier research by Borderless. On July 14th, crypto.news reported that their benchmark study for the second quarter found that when transferring $1 million, choosing a median service provider instead of the best available route would result in an additional cost of $2,330.

In that earlier report, Borderless tracked 260 channels covering 108 countries and 59 currencies. On the path of converting to Brazilian Reais (USDT), the lowest-priced service provider changed 34 times over 88 observation days.

In the methodology for the second quarter, Borderless defines the total delivery cost as: the deviation of the service provider's settlement pricing from their reference mid-price, plus the recorded payment network fees and local taxes and fees. Since fixed fees account for a larger proportion in small-value transfers, the resulting cost will vary with the scale of the payment.

Borderless In an earlier second-quarter report, there was a distinction made between coverage and actual usage. The report listed 131 local payment channels covering 70 countries, yet only 22 payment solutions were actually delivered during that quarter. The company described these baseline figures as observations at the network level, stating that the price of a single payment depends on its channel, scale, and service provider.

Rapid settlement did not result in a consistent completion rate.

According to the report on third-quarter results, the median settlement time for Brazil PIX and Colombia PSE is 2 minutes, while for Mexico SPEI it is 3 minutes.

Compared with traditional SWIFT, settlements are usually completed on the next working day, while the slowest 10% take up to 3 working days. The time data for stablecoins mentioned in the text refers to the time it takes for the funds to be credited to the recipient's local bank account.

However, the completion rates are not consistent. The report lists the completion rates as follows: SPEI at 98.6%, PIX at 97.8%, PSE at 79%, and Costa Rica at SINPE at 73%.

The gap between the highest and lowest completion rates is 25.6 percentage points. The text indicates that these percentages are presented as observations from the reported payment samples, rather than a measure of the performance of all individuals who use these domestic online transactions.

Pilot tests related to the United States have tested enterprise settlements.

A report on July 9th mentioned that Hyundai Card (Hyundai Card) conducted a pilot internal company transfer of $20,000, involving Hyundai Motor's operations in the United States and Mexico. Hyundai stated that this transaction utilized (USDT) on (Avalanche), and was completed in about 7 minutes.

According to the report, Hyundai Motor America first converts US dollars into USDT, and then transfers the tokens to its Mexican subsidiary, which in turn converts them back into US dollars. Hyundai Card is responsible for regulatory reviews, legal and tax assessments, internal controls, as well as the design of remittances.

On October 1st, another report mentioned that Lloyds Banking Group ( Lloyds Banking Group ) and Visa completed a settlement of $750,000 in a 7-day USDC real-world pilot project. Lloyds stated that the funds were delivered to Visa within 1 hour, including during weekends.

The bank announced that the counterparty was its Corporate Markets branch located in Jersey, as well as Visa in the United States. Lloyds first purchased USDC through the UK-regulated exchange Archax, and then transferred the settlement funds to Visa.
