This initiative supports the modernization of national security measures for individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises, and provides additional TrendAI Vision One ™ AI security capabilities and expert technical support through partners.
Tokyo, October 19th / PRNewswire / -- Trend Technology Company ( TSE : 4704) announced today the launch of the "Japan Cyber Resilience Initiative" ( Japan Cyber Resilience Initiative ), a major national initiative aimed at helping Japanese organizations strengthen cyber security, reduce critical vulnerabilities, and modernize defense capabilities in the AI era. This initiative is not only targeted at organizations but also at individuals.
Research by TrendAI ™, a subsidiary of Trend Micro, indicates that cybersecurity challenges in Japan are rapidly intensifying. The company reported that a total of 607 publicly disclosed cybersecurity incidents occurred in the first nine months of 2026, surpassing the 594 incidents reported for the entire year of 2025*. In addition, an increasing number of personal data breaches at an organizational level have exposed sensitive information on a large scale, making cyber risks a concern not only for businesses but also for individuals and Japanese society as a whole.
*Network security incident data statistics as of October 9, 2026. Due to subsequent supplementary disclosures and other factors, the data may change.*
However, despite the increasing number and complexity of attacks, many organizations are still not prepared for the next generation of threats. The expanding threat landscape is no longer limited to large corporations and critical infrastructure; it has also extended to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), suppliers, and service providers that form the foundation of Japan's economy.
This project is aimed at serving organizations and individuals across Japan, with an initial focus on critical infrastructure, major enterprises, and small businesses that are indispensable to the supply chain. Support will be provided in phases and can be customized according to the needs of each organization, their qualifications, and available resources.
Trend Micro will work closely with its extensive network of channel partners, system integrators, and hosting service providers in Japan to expand the reach of this initiative. Eligible organizations can receive up to 10 days of free professional services*, delivered through these partners, to help them gain the necessary cybersecurity expertise and support.

Through its enterprise network security business TrendAI ™, the company plans to offer a TrendAI Flex licensing quota of up to 10 billion yen to help eligible organizations modernize their security environments with TrendAI Vision One ™. This initiative also includes plans to mobilize frontline engineers (FDE) and provide professional support for managed detection and response (MDR).
National-level challenges require national-level commitments.
Senior Japanese political leaders have described the current situation as a state of emergency in cyber security.
As a global cybersecurity company headquartered in Japan, Trend Micro has been protecting Japanese enterprises for decades, while also continuously investing in global threat research, vulnerability discovery, threat intelligence, and incident response.
Eva Chen, the CEO of Trend Micro, stated: "Japan is our home. When organizations and individuals that support our economy, infrastructure, and communities are facing increasingly severe cybersecurity challenges, it is our responsibility to step forward. No organization should face this challenge alone. We are bringing together technology, talent, and global security expertise to help Japan strengthen its defenses today and to prepare for a future where cyber threats will evolve at an unprecedented pace."
The Japan Cyber Resilience Initiative will provide the following six types of support to organizations and individuals.
For organizations
Up to 10 billion yen to accelerate the modernization of network security
Trend Micro proposes to allocate a maximum of 10 billion yen in TrendAI Flex licenses to help eligible organizations adopt and expand the protection capabilities of the TrendAI Vision One ™ platform, in order to modernize existing security environments and strengthen the protection of critical systems. Through TrendAI Flex Unlimited, customers can also gain additional capabilities of TrendAI Vision One ™, including AI security innovations.
This initiative will also help existing customers collaborate with their trusted channel partners, where appropriate, to gradually transition to modern defenses suited for the AI era, based on their current security investments, without unnecessarily disrupting their existing protection systems.
The aforementioned proposal allocates licensing quotas, rather than cash subsidies. The initiative will be rolled out in phases, and the specific eligibility criteria, quota allocation and exchange terms, methods for partner participation, as well as service availability, will be announced as the project progresses.
2. Transform technology into stronger defenses through frontline engineers
Given that the modernization of network security requires not only technology, the TrendAI ™ plan involves mobilizing frontline engineers ( FDE ) and technical experts to collaborate directly with participating organizations.
These experts will work in collaboration with the participating organizations and their existing partners to assess critical exposure points, identify security gaps, prioritize risk reduction, and accelerate the deployment of modern security capabilities where appropriate.
The initial efforts of FDE will be prioritized towards organizations that are particularly important for the national infrastructure, economic activities, and interrelated supply chains. For smaller organizations, Trend Technology intends to expand the reach of this initiative through appropriate delivery models and its partner ecosystem.
3. Expert-led detection, response, and operational resilience
Leveraging the MDR capabilities and security expertise of TrendAI ™, eligible organizations can further receive support for continuous threat monitoring, incident investigation, and response.
This initiative aims to help organizations move beyond isolated security controls and adopt a coordinated approach that connects exposure management, threat detection, incident response, and proactive risk reduction.
Trend Micro also protects over 10 million consumers in Japan through its TrendLife™ business unit. Through a network of local partners and managed service providers (MSP) that serve more than 230,000 small and medium-sized enterprises, the company also helps to protect nearly 2 million enterprise devices. On this basis, the company will continue to assist consumers and small businesses in enhancing their security.
Targeted at smaller organizations
4. Offer a 60-day free trial from Worry to Free Business Security Services (to be determined).
Small and medium-sized enterprises play an important role in the supply chain, and it has become increasingly urgent to enhance their security. For such customers, the company will offer a 60-day free trial of Worry - Free Business Security Services. In addition, TrendLife ™ is working with channel partners to consider providing new support for the Worry-Free series. More details will be announced once finalized.
Note: This free trial is only available to new customers in Japan and must be started before December 31, 2026.
5. Explore fraud protection based on AI to enhance digital trust on LINE.
As more and more small and medium-sized enterprises rely on the official account of LINE ( LINE OA ) to interact with customers, their daily communications may also expose them to scams disguised as customer inquiries, suspicious links, or fraudulent requests.
TrendLife ™ is advancing the integration of API with service providers related to LINE, enabling fraud detection capabilities based on AI to be seamlessly embedded into customer touchpoints, thereby helping to enhance protection for businesses and their customers. The company is currently collaborating with partners, including Asia's leading LINE CRM provider Crescendo Lab, and has entered the final stages before commercial deployment, with plans to launch by the end of this year.
