According to the latest register released by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) on October 16, the number of crypto asset service providers registered in the EU has increased to 375, with 9 new additions and 1 removal. These include BingX's Austrian subsidiary, YouHodler's Italian entity, as well as Openbank Deutschland under Santander Bank. The report notes that being registered does not mean that the companies have fully launched crypto services to their customers; the specific services they can provide still depend on the authorization or notification scope recorded by the regulatory authorities of each country.

According to the latest register published by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) on October 16, the number of crypto asset service providers registered under the EU's Crypto Asset Markets Regulation has increased to 375. Nine new companies were added this time, including BingX, YouHodler, and Openbank Deutschland under Santander Bank. At the same time, one Danish company that was previously listed was removed.

  • ESMA According to the latest MiCA registry, after adding 9 new providers and removing 1, the total number of crypto service providers has reached 375.
  • The Austrian subsidiary of BingX has been added to the registry and is authorized to provide 4 clearly listed cryptocurrency services.
  • The Italian entity with the identifier YouHodler has been approved to provide 5 services, including hosting, exchange, and order execution.
  • Santander's Openbank Deutschland and Deutsche Cooperative Bank appear together in the registry, indicating that traditional banks are expanding their regulated crypto services.
  • The Penning Financial Services from Denmark has disappeared from the registry, but the company states that its authorization status remains unchanged.

According to the latest registry from ESMA, the newly added entities include cryptocurrency companies, investment firms, and traditional banks operating under the EU's MiCA framework. The updated list includes 8 more entities than the previous snapshot, which recorded 367 entities.

The newly added entities include the Austrian entities MEGE, zweite, GmbH, YouHodler Italy S, r.l, as well as Openbank Deutschland AG under the Spanish banking group Banco Santander. The German cooperative bank and Prakma Markets from Spain are also listed in the new additions.

The register records entities that have been recognized under the MiCA framework, but this does not mean that all of the listed companies have already launched encryption services to their customers. The scope of permissions and activities that each provider can carry out still depends on the authorization or notification records held by their respective national regulatory authorities.

BingX enters the MiCA registry via Austria

Cryptocurrency exchange BingX has joined the EU registry through its Austrian subsidiaries MEGE, zweite, and GmbH. Prior to this, the company had already obtained authorization from the Austrian Financial Market Authority.

In a announcement on October 14th, BingX EU confirmed that it has obtained the license from MiCA. The company stated that this approval is part of its plan to provide regulated digital asset services throughout the European Economic Area.

Regulatory records show that this authorization was issued on October 13th and covers the custody and management of crypto assets, the exchange between crypto assets and funds, the exchange between different crypto assets, as well as transfer services.

BingX EU CEO Daniel Lai stated that this authorization provides a regulatory framework for the European services planned by the company. The exchange intends to operate in 29 markets within the European Economic Area, but it still must comply with applicable cross-border notification requirements.

This license does not automatically cover all products offered by the BingX group more broadly. In particular, the approved four services do not constitute an approval for operating multilateral trading platforms, executing leveraged derivative contracts, or providing investment advice.

crypto.news previously reported on BingX obtaining authorization in Austria, and mentioned that the four services approved for this company differ from other activities that may require separate licenses. ESMA This latest update involves incorporating this previously announced Austrian authorization into the public register within the EU framework.

YouHodler Approved for 5 Cryptocurrency Services in Italy

YouHodler enters the registry through YouHodler Italy S . r.l. This entity has been authorized by Italy's securities regulatory agency, CONSOB.

The company stated that, after consulting with the Italian Central Bank, CONSOB granted this authorization through resolution No. 24156 dated October 8, 2026. YouHodler issued a public announcement on October 14.

Its licenses cover the custody and management of crypto assets, the exchange between crypto assets and fiat currencies, the exchange between different crypto assets, the execution of customer orders, as well as the transfer of crypto assets.

These permissions include order execution, but this does not necessarily mean that they have been authorized to operate an independent multilateral trading venue. The specific regulatory distinctions depend on which type of services are listed in the provider's authorization.

YouHodler Italy indicates that there are plans to use the cross-border procedures of MiCA to provide services in all 27 EU member states. However, the company has not confirmed through this announcement that all services have been launched in each national market.

Chief Commercial Officer Lorenzo Barbantini Scanni stated that this authorization is the result of cooperation with Italian regulatory authorities, and indicated that banks and other financial institutions are seeking regulated crypto service providers.

Co-founder Ilya Volkov stated that the authorization from Italy will enable the company to operate under the unified regulatory framework of the European Union. The group's current products include services related to lending and earnings, but the 5 permissions listed by MiCA should not be regarded as a blanket approval for all products under the broader brand of YouHodler.

This authorization is granted to specific Italian legal entities and does not automatically transfer the same regulatory status to companies that are separately registered outside of the European Union.

Santander’s Openbank joins other German banks on the list

Banco Santander's digital banking subsidiary in Germany, Openbank Deutschland AG, is also an important addition to the latest MiCA registry.

The October update will include Openbank in the same EU unified list as professional cryptocurrency companies, reflecting that this framework covers both traditional financial institutions and native crypto enterprises.

The existing information does not specify which cryptocurrency products Openbank plans to offer in Germany, when customers will be able to start using these services, or whether these services include trading, custody, or transfers.

Other new entities in Germany include VR - Bank Alb - Blau-Donau, VR Bank im sü dlichen Franken as well as several cooperative banking institutions. Their emergence has further expanded the group of traditional lending institutions registered under Europe's crypto regulatory framework.

A previous review of banking registrants found that the number of banks listed in the registry had increased from around 40 at the end of June to approximately 80 by mid-September. The same review also noted that as of September 16, there were 349 registered crypto service providers, with the latest update showing 375.

Relevant activities in Germany include both international banks and regional financial institutions. Some banks can provide crypto asset services through notification procedures applicable to qualified regulated financial institutions, while companies without an existing qualified financial license typically need to obtain a separate CASP authorization.

According to other reports, Deutsche Bank has been preparing encrypted custody services for institutional clients in Germany. An update on the launch of its custody service on October 16 stated that Bitcoin and Ethereum would be the focus in the initial phase, with plans to introduce services related to stablecoins later on.

However, the launch planned by Deutsche Bank is a different matter from Openbank entering the registry this time. The former has already seen discussions regarding the product launch arrangements, while the latter's appearance in the registry in October does not in itself prove the date of commencement of its customer service.

Despite the disappearance of Penning, the registry of MiCA has still increased to 375 entities.

A comparison of the latest registries shows that although 9 new companies have been added, the net increase is only 8, raising the total number from 367 to 375.

According to the comparison of the registry by NorthPoint, Denmark's Penning Financial Services ApS is the only provider that no longer appears in the latest authorized CASP document.

ESMA indicates that the revoked authorization should continue to be retained in the temporary register, along with the date of effective revocation. Therefore, the disappearance of the Penning entry alone is not sufficient to prove that the Danish authorities have revoked the company's license.

As of October 19th, among the reports available for use in this article, the cause of this missing record has not yet been confirmed. Neither an official revocation decision was found in the reviewed materials, nor was there any explanation for a possible registration correction.

Registry comparison also revealed that several existing records had changed, including corrections to the authorization notification dates. Some records indicated notification dates that were later than the release date of October 16th, which means that these dates need to be confirmed separately before they can be considered as evidence of completed events.

The number of non-compliant registrations has increased to 178, while the category of tokens remains unchanged.

In addition to the list of authorized providers, ESMA also maintains a separate register that lists entities identified by the regulatory authorities as providing crypto asset services without meeting the applicable authorization requirements.

In the October update, 5 new entries were added to this non-compliant register, raising the total from 173 to 178. The comparison using NorthPoint attributed these 5 new entries to information provided by Italy's securities regulatory authority.

Being listed in the non-compliance register is a different status from obtaining CASP authorization. The relevant records should be understood in accordance with the decisions announced by the regulatory authorities and should not be regarded as evidence of unrelated financial misconduct.

The electronic currency token registry for ESMA maintained 50 records unchanged in the data provided in October, corresponding to 25 different entities. However, its separate asset reference token issuer registry continued to be displayed as empty.

EU regulatory authorities release these records based on information provided by national competent authorities and the European Banking Authority. ESMA indicates that their temporary files are updated weekly; therefore, a national authorization or notification may not appear in the EU register until the relevant country has made its decision.

The material released by this institution on October 16th contains multiple downloadable files, which correspond to authorized service providers, electronic currency token issuers, asset reference token issuers, and non-compliant entities, respectively. The regulatory status recorded for each category is different; therefore, when assessing the permissions of a company, it is necessary to examine each category separately.
