Fremont, California, USA, and Barcelona, Spain, October 21 (Reuters/ PR Newswire ) – AglaiaSense and Leopard Imaging will jointly exhibit at the Smart City Expo World Congress to be held at Fira Barcelona Gran V ía in Barcelona from November 3 to 5, 2026.
The proposals ( AI-VIVA ( Vision Intelligence for Val è ncia and Arterials ) put forward by the two companies have made it to the final round of Barcelona's Innova Lab Mobility ( BILM ) Fifth Urban Challenge, with the theme of applying artificial intelligence to traffic light control. These proposals combine AglaiaSense's edge computing-based traffic solutions with Leopard Imaging's patented privacy architecture. During the exhibition, the teams will demonstrate on-site AglaiaSense's MS500 and GS500 cameras, as well as the AglaiaSense AI Box driven by NVIDIA; this device can enhance local processing capabilities for coordinating groups of adjacent intersections.
These cameras analyze images internally within the device, utilizing Sony IMX500 and IMX501 intelligent vision sensors. They are capable of real-time statistics and classification of vehicles, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians. The raw video is discarded within 400 to 800 milliseconds on the device side, with only anonymous metadata being transmitted. Cities can input this data into signal control software in order to adjust traffic lights according to actual needs.
AglaiaSense CEO Leon Luo stated: "Cities want to have safer and smoother streets, rather than turning every intersection into a monitoring point." He also said, "Being selected as a finalist for Barcelona tells us that this approach has resonated with people."
Leopard Imaging CEO Bill Pu stated: "Privacy must be established from within the cameras themselves, rather than being added afterwards."
The solution of AglaiaSense has been deployed in North America and Asia. The company also won first place in the Pedestrian Safety Challenge Hackathon organized by Edge AI Foundation (formerly known as tinyML and Foundation) and the city of San Jose. In on-site tests, the detection and counting accuracy of these systems exceeded 95%. Lakewood City, Colorado, compared GS500 with traditional IP cameras and LiDAR on real roads and found that it has higher accuracy, lower energy consumption, and lower deployment costs. At a high-risk intersection where pedestrians often do not use zebra crossings, this system can alert approaching drivers in real time.
