Just a few weeks after laying off thousands of employees, Uber is making its enterprise-level tool OpenAI available to all its corporate employees.
Two companies stated on Thursday that approximately 30,000 employees of this ride-hailing service company will be granted access to use ChatGPT Work.
It is stated that this tool will be connected to other programs used by Uber employees, such as Slack and Gmail, in order to "research information, prepare meeting summaries, create presentations, analyze data, and complete work processes across various applications."
Uber's Chief Technology Officer Praveen Neppalli Naga stated:"As AI is changing the way we work, we want to ensure that everyone has the tools to innovate, solve problems, and help shape Uber's future." Uber initially tested this tool among a group of 1,000 employees.

This promotion comes at a time when Uber cut about 10% of its corporate staff last month, affecting approximately 3,300 people. Uber's CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, stated at the time that the layoffs were aimed at reducing management levels and the number of small teams. The company did not mention AI in its announcement at that time.
Some laid-off employees told Business Insider, that AI has taken on an important part of their work, ranging from answering their questions in Slack to drafting information responses for passengers and drivers.
In an earlier round of layoffs in July, Uber listed AI as one of the reasons; that round of layoffs targeted Uber's customer service staff.
