A new blockbuster documentary about the notorious biotechnology founder Elizabeth Holmes is reigniting public interest in one of the biggest scandals to have occurred in Silicon Valley.
The film " You Can See Everything " directed by Nathan Field and Lance Oppenheim documents the situation of Holmes – the former CEO of the blood testing startup Theranos – in the weeks before she began serving her prison sentence. She was sentenced to 11 years in prison for defrauding investors.
Before the release of this nearly 3-hour documentary on October 16th, viewers revisited the mini-series Hulu launched in 2022, which featured Amanda Seyfried playing Holmes.
Disney owns Hulu. A Disney spokesperson stated that the broadcast duration of this Hulu original series in September soared by 186% compared to August, and during the week You Can See Everything was released, its broadcast duration increased by another 92% compared to the previous week.
The spokesperson also stated that this series, which consists of 8 episodes and can also be watched on Disney, has accumulated over 2 million hours of playback time since September.
As the outside world once again focuses on the rise and fall of Holmes and his Theranos, ABC News's podcast "The Dropout" – the drama series Hulu is actually adapted from this true crime podcast – has also attracted listeners back.
According to data provided by a Disney spokesperson, during the week the trailer for You Can See Everything was released, which is from September 7 to September 13, the playback volume of the The Dropout podcast on Spotify and Apple increased by nearly 400%.

The spokesperson stated that during the weekend when the new film was released, the podcast's listenership increased by over 900% year-on-year, and it continues to rise; he also added that on Tuesday, it set a new record for the highest daily playback volume since the announcement of You Can See Everything.
Spotify A spokesperson told Business Insider that Wednesday was the best day for this The Dropout podcast on the platform since the release of the documentary, with the number of American listeners increasing by 305% compared to the average listening volume of the previous 30 days.
The audiobook " Bad Blood : Secrets and Lies in A Sil Token Issuance n Valley Startup " written by journalist John Carrelo has also attracted a new group of listeners. Carrelo's previous reports in The Wall Street Journal exposed defects in Theranos blood testing devices.
According to the spokesperson from Spotify, this audiobook saw its largest increase on Thursday, with the number of listeners in the United States soaring by 560%.
As of Friday, this book ranked 6th on Amazon's bestseller list for business and finance books.
In January 2022, after a trial that lasted nearly 4 months, Holmes was convicted of 4 federal charges related to conspiracy and telecommunications fraud, which were connected to a scheme to defraud hundreds of millions of dollars from investors from Theranos.
On May 30, 2023, after being sentenced to 11 years and 3 months in prison, Holmes began serving her sentence at a women's prison in Texas with the lowest security level.
This former favorite of Silicon Valley has repeatedly claimed that Theranos – a company whose valuation once reached $9 billion – has developed a revolutionary blood analyzer that can perform hundreds of tests with just a few drops of blood collected from a finger.
