Millennials once had Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works; Generation Z, on the other hand, has Sol, de, and Janeiro.
This body care, hair care, and fragrance brand, established in 2015, has now become an important player in the industry. Its parent company, L', stated in its 2025 fiscal year report that Sol, de, and Janeiro accounted for 31.6% of the group's sales. The report also mentioned that at that time, Sol, de, and Janeiro were the number one beauty brands in North America and also the number one fragrance brand on Amazon in the United States.
Two Sol, de, and Janeiro products have driven this growth. Firstly, after the brand launched its $48 Brazilian Bum Bum Cream in 2015, millennials quickly embraced it and made it a regular part of their skincare routine.
Today, teenagers and younger consumers have become fascinated with the Cheirosa fragrance sprays, which cost $39 each. The first product was launched in 2020. These sprays have become a common sight on young people's shopping lists, holiday wish lists, and in videos showing what they have in their bags.
I am also a fan of fragrances myself, but I have never tried these sprays before. So I went to Ulta Beauty and bought a set of trial sizes that cost $49 and include 6 scents: Sol, de, and Janeiro. I tested each one on my skin one by one.
Taking into account the fragrance of each spray, the duration of the scent, its suitability for daily wear, and personal preferences, here is my ranking from worst to best.
I hope that Cheirosa 71 can have more layers of detail.

If I were to say what my favorite thing is, it would definitely be desserts – so Cheirosa 71 should really suit me well.
Sol de Janeiro indicates that the inspiration for this fragrance comes from Brazil's iconic Confeitaria Colombo bakery, with notes including caramel vanilla, roasted macadamia nuts, sea salt, white chocolate, and zeroling cardamom.
When I tried it out, this spray smelled more like gingerbread cookies on my skin. As the fragrance unfolded, it then became more like whole wheat cookies drizzled with caramel.
Some commentators said that this fragrance smells like butter popcorn; but I didn’t detect that scent on my own skin.
On the contrary, it reminds me of the holiday hand sanitizer from Bath and Body Works. I can enjoy its scent for a while, but I don’t want to have it on my body all day long. It’s too strong and too sweet for me.
Cheirosa 62 is the most well-known fragrance among Sol, de, and Janeiro, but it's not my favorite.
To be honest, I never really had a deep impression of Cheirosa 62. It’s actually the fragrance that became popular after the brand Brazilian Bum Bum Cream became well-known.
Sol de Janeiro describes this fragrance as "irresistible and full of sunshine," using it to pay tribute to Brazil in 1962 – it was in that year that The Girl from Ipanema was written.
Its fragrance includes pistachios, almonds, mustard flowers, jasmine petals, vanilla, salty caramel, and sandalwood. Cheirosa Indeed, as they say, I would describe it as “summer in a bottle.”
However, this also makes it seem quite seasonal to me. In autumn, winter, or spring, I don't really feel that it's appropriate to wear it.
I also think these fragrances are more suitable for richer, creamier products, such as Bum Bum Cream.
Cheirosa The 39 spray has a very recognizable pattern, which I really like.

If any of the Sol, de, or Janeiro scents smell like butter popcorn, I think it would be this one.
Sol de Janeiro says that this fragrance aims to create a seaside atmosphere, as if you were lying on a hammock with a gentle breeze brushing through your hair; its scent includes coconut cream, baked vanilla, tropical orchids, sandalwood, and nutty candy.
The first time I applied it, this combination smelled like butter popcorn on my skin. This is not a review of Sol, de, or Janeiro; perfumes smell different on everyone because of the varying chemical reactions that occur on the skin.
But I don't mind it at all. I actually quite like this scent. It's rich and intriguing, and it's different from all the other scents in my perfume collection.
As the fragrance slowly settles, the taste of coconut and vanilla becomes more pronounced, and a hint of floral scent also emerges. Although it takes a bit of time, it ultimately transports me to a place that feels like an island.
So, although I may not use Cheirosa 39 every day, I will add it to my own perfume rotation list.
When I spray on Cheirosa number 68, I feel fresh and young, as if I'm on vacation.
The inspiration for Cheirosa 68 comes from the Tropic á lia movement in Brazil in 1968, which influenced Brazilian art, music, and culture.
It contains fragrances such as pitaya, lychee essence, Brazilian jasmine, sea breeze, hibiscus, vanilla, and musk.
For me, it smells sweet, fresh, and invigorating. I can imagine using it on the beach or during a night walk with friends.
Judging from my current collection of scents, I might use it occasionally when the weather is warm. However, if I were a teenager in 2026, I probably would use these scents – Sol, de, and Janeiro – every day.
Cheirosa 40 reminds me of my favorite Victoria's Secret fragrance.
On the official website, Sol, de, and Janeiro describe this fragrance as "sexy and delicate," with notes including black amber plums, black grape cream, jasmine, basil broccoli, vanilla, and musk.
From my experience, as long as I spray it a little, I can detect all these fragrances. It is the most mature and has the longest-lasting fragrance among this series that I have tried.
I can't put down Cheirosa 48.
Sol de Janeiro According to the official website, this fragrance is supposed to be as free and unrestrained as the energy that accompanied the debut of the bikini in Brazil in 1948.
"Free and unrestrained" is an accurate description, but I would also say that it's exciting. Its fragrance blends guava blossom honey, coconut water, orchids, lemon, wild iris, pink musk, and vanilla.
These fragrance notes come together to create a refreshing and exciting scent, reminiscent of a drink by the summer pool. However, the musk note makes it more versatile than a typical summer fragrance.
Cheirosa 48 is something I will use throughout the whole year. Sol de Janeiro Spray.
