Apple has released the latest iOS 27.2 update for iPhone and iPad, which brings broader language support, improvements to the Siri AI memory function, a suggestion feature within information, as well as support for foldable iPhone Duo Apple Pencil.
With this software update, Siri AI is now available in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish, but it is still in the testing phase. Apple states that this AI assistant can now remember details from past conversations and respond accordingly. Making the AI assistant remember user preferences has always been a focus for the developers of the AI model, including OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google; their assistants are now also better at recalling facts and choices related to users.
In addition to its own suggestions and answers, Siri can also draw on sources such as photos attached to messages, participants in calendar events, voicemail, Safari browsing history, and reading lists. Users can set which applications they do not wish for Siri AI to record in their "memory."
Despite the early buyers of iPhone Duo facing some display-related issues, Apple is still adding more features with this update. iOS Version 27.2 brings Apple Pencil support to this foldable device, which can be used with applications such as Notes and Preview. In addition, users can also utilize Edge Light effects to better highlight their faces during video calls.
The new version of the software also adds features for FaceTime, including the ability to use both the front and rear cameras simultaneously for live streaming during group calls through Dual Capture, as well as allowing third-party sign language interpreters or real-time subtitlers to join the call.
In iOS 27.2, users will also receive suggestions on how to add a message as a reminder or as a calendar event. In addition, users can edit the description text in Shared Albums or add comments, and they will also receive reminders about the expiration dates of the folders.
This update also refreshed the podcast app, which will now display new episodes from the shows you follow, as well as the episodes you are currently listening to.
Apple will also add the Multiview feature to iPhone. Users will be able to watch up to four sports broadcasts simultaneously on Apple TV, such as Major League Soccer (MLS), Formula 1 in the United States (F1), and the Friday night doubleheaders during the season of Major League Baseball (MLB). Users can also watch multiple signal sources of F1 during the broadcasts.
According to the company's release notes, iOS 27.2 also includes more than 160 security fixes. Many of these bug fixes have also been backported to the older iOS 26 software version, so that those users can also benefit from them.
Apple stated that approximately 80% of iPhone users are still running iOS 26.
At the same time, Apple has also rolled back a fix for a specific vulnerability to users with iOS. This vulnerability was first identified in 2024. Apple stated that it may have been exploited in "an extremely complex attack targeting specific individuals on versions prior to iOS." This is a standard statement used by Apple when someone's phone is compromised by government spyware or law enforcement forensics devices, but Apple did not provide any specific information about the identity of the attackers.
