Berlin, October 28, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Appian (Nasdaq ticker: APPN ) and PSI CRO today announced the launch of their first process orchestration solution based on AI. This solution can automatically identify and filter research centers suitable for clinical trials, covering different treatment areas, indications, and countries.

This now available solution is the first step towards the common vision of PSI and Appian: to create an extensible platform that integrates automation, AI functions, and process orchestration throughout the entire lifecycle of clinical trials. Both parties stated that this will lay the foundation for improving the efficiency, transparency, and speed of complex clinical trial processes.

AI and process orchestration for the screening of complex research centers

Selecting appropriate research centers for clinical trials requires close collaboration among numerous stakeholders. During this process, a large number of documents must be handled, and multiple activities need to be coordinated in parallel across different countries and regions. The new approach integrates the previously scattered and manual steps into a end-to-end digital process that covers the entire process from project initiation to the subsequent stages of center selection.

As the recognized leader in 2026 among Gartner, Magic Quadrant, for, Business Orchestration, and, Automation Technologies (and BOAT), Appian states that the company believes its platform provides the foundation for this solution. This solution can help clients identify and select the most suitable research centers, enhance end-to-end transparency, and speed up the screening process.

This solution is not just about automating individual tasks, but rather about orchestrating the entire process. To achieve this, it integrates personnel, data, systems, and AI into a single workflow, coordinating activities across teams and borders, automatically processing information and documents, managing process handovers and exceptions, while also providing real-time insights into process performance.

This solution is connected to the core system and data warehouse of PSI, and at the same time utilizes the AI and process intelligence features of Appian to form an extensible foundation that supports faster decision-making, higher consistency, and continuous improvement.

The starting point of a long-term platform strategy

This solution, designed for research center screening, puts the platform vision of PSI into practice. It combines the goal of PSI to make clinical trials more planable with the automation and AI functions of Appian.

PSI Process Improvement Director Kirill Soldatov stated: "This AI-driven clinical trial site selection solution is an important step in our rethinking and better connecting operational processes. PSI is known for completing complex clinical trials on time. Integrating automation, AI functions, and process orchestration into a more interconnected operational model of the existing workflow will provide a scalable foundation for more predictable, precise, and timely site selection globally. We hope to further reduce or completely avoid the number of sites without patient enrollment, as well as delays in patient enrollment."

Appian, who is in charge of DACH and the regional vice president for Eastern Europe, Alexander Motie added: "This first joint project demonstrates the value that can be created by AI when integrated into business processes. This solution helps PSI to process information more quickly through automation and manage processes more transparently through orchestration. Through this strategic cooperation, we hope to establish a flexible and long-term foundation to support more automation and innovation in the future."

With the launch of the first solution, the PSI and Appian initiatives will continue to be advanced on this basis, and more use cases will be evaluated to extend the process orchestration driven by AI to other stages of clinical trials. The goal is to accelerate the clinical trial process and improve its predictability, thereby enabling new products to be launched more quickly and reducing costs for consumers.
