Coinbase Global The net profit after adjustment in the third quarter was 719 million US dollars, a 66% increase from 433 million US dollars in the same period of the previous year, mainly due to the recovery of the cryptocurrency market.
Coinbase indicates that the earnings per share for the most recent quarter were $2.51, however, it is not yet clear whether this can be directly compared with the $0.06 per share profit previously estimated by Wall Street analysts. According to the analyst expectations surveyed in LSEG, the company's revenue was $1.2 billion, which is lower than the expected $1.233 billion.
The platform, headquartered in San Francisco, saw a significant increase in net profit, thanks to the rise in the value of its volatile cryptocurrency portfolio. Even if there are no major changes in the composition of the underlying holdings, the value of such portfolios can still experience substantial fluctuations.
In the third quarter, the value of the Coinbase crypto portfolio rose as the digital asset market rebounded. The price of Bitcoin – which is often considered an indicator of the trend of all crypto assets – increased by 39% over the three months ending September 30, and its recent trading price is around $80,809.
Expanding beyond Bitcoin
In the third quarter, Coinbase further advanced its non-crypto products and services, including artificial intelligence integration for traders, tokenization of real-world assets, and market forecasting.
In July this year, Vice President of Products Max Branzburg stated to CNBC that Coinbase would launch a “versatile exchange” that would focus on tokenized stocks and other real-world assets, derivatives trading, prediction markets, as well as early-stage token sales. At the beginning of October, the trading platform also introduced Coinbase for Agents, which supports users who wish to use ChatGPT Muse or other AI agents to manage their portfolios, or to research and trade various assets.
Coinbase has also expanded its predictive market products, offering users a wider range of event contracts.
In the third quarter, it is predicted that market business revenue will grow to over $200 million on an annualized basis, and the number of traders in these markets has increased by 60% compared to the second quarter.
