On Wednesday, the Democratic Party in the United States achieved a comprehensive victory in the mid-term elections, taking back several congressional seats previously held by the Republican Party and winning historic victories in traditionally conservative states. This choice by voters is seen as a blow to President Donald Trump.
It is predicted that the Democratic Party will gain control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives in Congress. The party's victories in several swing states may impose constraints on President Trump's legislative agenda over the remaining two years of his term.
The following are some live images of polling stations, campaign headquarters, and election night celebration activities across the United States.

Texas
One of the biggest surprises came from Texas. Democrat James Tarrantico defeated Republican Ken Paxton, becoming the state's first Democratic federal senator since 1988.
Another Democrat, Gina Inohosa, also defeated Republican Governor Greg Abbott to become the state's first Latina governor, ending the Republican Party's control over this position for over 30 years.
North Carolina
In North Carolina, former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper defeated Michael Watley, who was supported by Trump, thus flipping a Senate seat that had been under Republican control. Cooper will succeed the retiring Republican Senator Tom Tillis, who announced his resignation after a conflict with Trump over tax and spending legislation.
Georgia State
In Georgia, Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff defeated Republican Mike Collins, who was supported by Trump, and was successfully reelected; at the same time, former Atlanta Mayor Kesa Lance Bowtones won the gubernatorial election, becoming the first black woman to be elected governor in the United States.
Meanwhile, in Ohio, former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown made a political comeback, defeating Republican incumbent Jon Hesterd in a highly watched Senate election.
This election is widely seen as a referendum on Trump's second term in office. Rising living costs, inflation, and concerns related to the Iran war have all influenced the sentiment of voters.
