Senate Democrats are preparing to investigate the banking relationship between JPMorgan Chase and the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after taking control of Congress at the beginning of next year.

A person familiar with the committee's thinking told CNBC on Thursday that Democratic staff members of the Senate Finance Committee – which is likely to be chaired by Oregon Democrat Senator Ron Wyden in the next Congress – intend to focus on how senior executives of the largest banks in the United States handled Epstein-related affairs. Since this investigation has not been officially announced, this person requested to remain anonymous.

According to this source, they particularly wish to focus on the decisions made by Mary Elders, the CEO of JPMorgan's Asset and Wealth Management business, regarding Epstein.

JPMorgan Chase did not immediately respond to the request for comment from CNBC.

After a resounding victory in the midterms on Tuesday, Democrats are openly preparing to revisit the Epstein case and plan to launch a series of extensive investigations.

Wyden, who currently serves as a senior member of the committee, has clearly stated that he plans to make full use of the subpoena power held by the majority party in the committee.
