TikTok has quietly launched an independent version of the TikTok Shop app in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines, offering features such as personalized recommendations, live streaming and short video shopping, app-exclusive discounts, in-app checkout, order tracking, and customer service. TechCrunch states that this move indicates the company is intensifying its focus on social e-commerce, but the company has not responded to plans for broader promotion, and it is still unclear whether they will enter the US market.

TikTok is continuing to expand its e-commerce territory and has quietly launched an independent version of the TikTok Shop app in some markets. This app will provide personalized product recommendations, the ability to shop through live broadcasts and short videos, exclusive app discounts, in-app checkout, order tracking, and customer support.

This app was first discovered by social media consultant Matt Navarra. It is currently available on the iOS and Android platforms in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Launching a standalone app gives TikTok Shop the opportunity to reach shoppers outside of the main TikTok platform, and to engage in more direct competition with established e-commerce apps such as Amazon and Temu. This also indicates that TikTok is prepared to invest more resources in social e-commerce, providing an independent entry point for Shop rather than keeping it confined within the main app.

TikTok did not respond to TechCrunch's request for comments regarding this launch plan.

It is not yet clear whether TikTok plans to launch this application more broadly and bring it to the US market. If TikTok does introduce this application to the US, it will not only compete with Amazon and Temu, but also face large retailers such as Walmart and Target; the users of these retailers are already accustomed to placing orders regularly through their store apps.

According to the application description, users will be able to enjoy free shipping discounts and exclusive benefits for their first order, as well as "safe payment to ensure secure checkout." By offering application-exclusive discounts, the company is incentivizing users to shop directly within this app, rather than placing orders through the main TikTok app.

Interestingly, this release has, to some extent, created a situation where the competition between TikTok and Amazon has taken a 'roundabout' path. Previously, Amazon launched a short-video streaming service similar to TikTok, called Inspire, in an attempt to draw consumers' attention away from apps like TikTok and encourage them to shop on Amazon's platform; now, TikTok is counteracting in a similar manner. With this new standalone e-commerce app, TikTok hopes to attract consumers away from platforms such as Amazon and foster more purchases within its own ecosystem.

This launch also marks a further attempt by TikTok to break through the boundaries of social media business. Although the company has mainly focused on social networks and entertainment in the past, TikTok has gradually entered new fields in recent years.

In addition to TikTok Shop, the company has also added features such as games, restaurant guides, sports sections, hotel reservations, and micro-dramas, and is also exploring payment services.
